The Wisconsin Badgers host the UNLV Rebels at the Kohl Center in Saturday college hoops action. The Badgers are -8.5 point favorites over the Rebels with an over/under point total set at 129.
The Wisconsin Badgers ended their two game losing streak by winning on Wednesday and Bo Ryan’s team looks to the future as they have a chance to shake things up this season. Wisconsin’s losses came at the hands of North Carolina and Marquette and while the schedule has been one of the toughest around it doesn’t get any easier. Jordan Taylor is averaging 12.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists, Jared Berggren is averaging 12.1 points and 5.1 rebounds, Ben Brust is averaging 11.2 points, and Ryan Evans is averaging 9.9 points and 6.4 rebounds. As a team Wisconsin is averaging 68.8 points and they are shooting 45.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 44.2 points and their opponents shoot just 32.9 percent. Wisconsin is 5-1 at home thus far this year.
The UNLV Rebels have already knocked off one team ranked in the top 25 this season and David Rice would like nothing more than to see his team do it again on Saturday. UNLV owns a 10 point win over he Carolina Tar Heels but they are also soundly beaten by 19 points by Wichita State so it will be interesting to see which team shows up for this one. Mike Moser is averaging 15.8 points and 12.5 rebounds, Chace Stanback is averaging 15.1 points and 5.7 rebounds, Oscar Bellfield is averaging 11.6 points and 5.1 assists, and Justin Hawkins is averaging 11.2 points. As a team UNLV is averaging 83 points, 19.6 assists, and 47.2 rebounds and defensively they are allowing 67.2 points and their opponents shoot 42.4 percent. UNLV plays a style which their opponents find frustrating and it’s a good reason for their success.
Wisconsin is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall, 5-1 against the spread in their last six non-conference games, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games. UNLV is 6-2 against eh spread in their last eight road games, 2-6 against the spread following a win of 20 or more points, and 9-3 against the spread following a game where they scored 90 or more points.
Both of these teams can score but both can play defense and defend as well so look for them to use the clock making this a low scoring game and keeping it under the agressively low total which has been set at 129.
