Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. Florida Gators
The Rutgers Scarlett Knights play their final game before starting their Big East schedule as they hos the high powered and nationally ranked Florida Gators. The Gators are -10 point favorites over the Scarlet Knights with an over/under point total set at 140.
The Rutgers Scarlett Knights have won their last three games in a row but Mike Rice’s team knows that their tough work is all ahead of them. Rutgers has played the 326th ranked schedule in the country and as is the case for every Big East team it only gets a lot tougher when the conference schedule kicks in. Gilvydas Biruta averages 11.6 points and 6.3 rebounds, Eli Carter is averaging 11.2 points, Myles Mack is averaging 10.5 points, and Dane Miller averages 6.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. As a team RU averages 68.8 points and they are shooting 44.3 percent while defensively they allow 61.3 points and their opponents shoot just 38.8 percent from the floor. Rutgers will find out in a hurry if their defense is for real or if it is more of a byproduct of their soft schedule.
The Florida Gators will once again be one of the more exciting teams to watch in college basketball this year as with their talent and shooting ability there are going to be few games they will be out of. Billy Donovan has two National Championships to his credit and he has to believe he has a contender once again. Kenny Boynton is averaging 18.2 points, Bradley Beal is averaging 15.5 points and 6.2 rebounds, Erving Walker is averaging 14.2 points and 5.5 assists, and Patric Young is averaging 11.3 points and 7.2 rebounds. As a team UF is averaging 85.8 points, 17.3 assists, and they are shooting 47.8 percent from the floor while defensively Florida allows 65.6 points and their opponents shoot 40.9 percent from the floor. Florida’s two losses come in their only games against top 25 teams, Syracuse and Ohio State, with both of those games being on the road.
Rutgers is 0-8 against the spread in their last eight home games, 0-10-1 against the spread in their last 11 non-conference games, and 0-6 against the spread in their last six games overall. Florida is 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four road games, 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games against the Big East, and 12-5-1 against the spread in their last 18 games overall.
The total in this one is set at 140 and I see it staying under that number.
