Marquette Golden Eagles vs. Washington Huskies

It’s a Big East versus Pac-12 matchup at the Marquette Golden Eagles host the Washington Huskies.  The Golden Eagles are -5.5 point favorites over the Huskies with an over/under point total set at 153.

The Marquette Golden Eagles are coming off of their biggest win of the season as Buzz Williams’ team went into Madison and beat the Wisconsin Badgers by seven on Sunday. Meanwhile Marquette is a perfect 7-0 and they are loaded and look ready to make another string run this season. Darius Johnson-Odom is averaging 19.4 points, Jae Crowder is averaging 16.9 points and 6.7 rebounds, Vander Blue is averaging 10.4 points, and Junior Cadigan is averaging 7.7 points and 6.3 assists. As a team Marquette is averaging 84.1 points, 18.6 assists, and they shoot 50.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 58.7 points and their opposition shoots 34.9 percent. Marquette plays a brutal Big East schedule but look for them to be around shaking things up in March.

The Washington Huskies have their work cut out for them this season after losing the core of their team from a year ago but Lorenzo Romar has plenty of talent to work with and a fairly soft Pac-12 schedule so they will have chances to put things together. The Huskies lost last time out to Nevada in overtime in a game they had plenty of chances to win and winning on the road is something the Huskies haven’t done this year. Terrance Ross is averaging 16.2 points and 6.7 rebounds, C.J. Wilcox is averaging 15.8 points and 4.3 rebounds, Tony Wroten is averaging 13 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, and Abdul Gaddy is averaging 9.7 points and 5.3 assists. As a team Washington is averaging 81 points, 15.8 assists, 42.7 offensive rebounds, and they shoot 46.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 71 points and their opponents shoot 40.2 percent from the floor. Washington appears to have the talent to play with anyone but it will be interesting to see how the season plays out for them.

Marquette is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games, 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games against a team with a losing road record, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall. Washington is 4-9 against the spread in their last 13 games overall, 1-4 against the spread following a loss, and 2-8 against the spread against a team with a winning record.

Both of these teams have plenty of players who can score and while 153 is an agressive total I look for this one to get past that number no problem.
