Eastern Kentucky Colonels vs. Arkansas Razorbacks
The Arkansas Razorbacks look for their seventh win of the year as they host the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in Tuesday college basketball action. The Razorbacks are -12 point favorites over the Colonels.
The Arkansas Razorbacks bounced back from back to back losses as Mike Anderson’s team beat Southeastern Louisiana last time out but it’s clear the Hogs have plenty of work ahead of them. With Marshawn Powell gone for the year Arkansas will need a complete effort from everyone and while they haven’t beaten a team with an RPI better than 50 they haven’t lost at home this year either. B.J. Young is averaging 15.3 points and 4.0 rebounds, Mardracus Wade is averaging 10.6 points, Julysses Nobles is averaging 9.3 points, and Rickey Scott is averaging 8.4 points. As a team Arkansas is averaging 76.6 points per game as they shoot 43.9 percent from the floor while defensively they aloow 65.9 points per game and their opponents shoot just 39.2 percent. Anderson is known for his up tempo style but he may not have all of the pieces in place yet to fully run his system with the Razorbacks.
While out of conference games against name opponents can help a team get on the map the Eastern Kentucky Colonels know they have only one way of making the NCAA Tournament this year, winning the Ohio Valley Conference. The OVC is going to be soft this year and Jeff Neubauer’s EKU team knows with just an upset or two they could be dancing in March. Jaron Jones is averaging 13.3 points, Eric Stutz is averaging 10.3 points, Joshua Jones is averaging 10 points, and Mike DiNunno is averaging 9.5 points. As a team Eastern Kentucky is averaging 65.3 points and they are shooting 44.1 percent while defensively they allow 61.8 points and their opponents shoot 44.9 percent. EKU hasn’t beaten a team with an RPI higher than 200 and with a strength of schedule of 325 they aren’t going to be heavily tested most of the year.
Arkansas is 3-13 against the spread following a win, 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games overall, and 0-5 against the spread in their last five non-conference games. Eastern Kentucky is 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 non-conference games, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games against a team with a winning record.
The line opened with Arkansas as an 11.5 point favorite but it didn’t last long there as it went to 12 and I don’t think it lasts long here either for good reason. Look for the Hogs to hit the boards hard here.
