Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks
The Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks cling to their playoff hopes as they meet Sunday at Soldier Field. The Bears are -4 point favorites over the Seahawks with an over/under point total set at 35.5.
The Chicago Bears looked to be a lock to make the playoffs but key injuries have led to three losses in a row and now they are on the outside looking in at the playoffs. With the injury to Jay Cutler Caleb Hanie has taken over at QB and the offense has sputtered as he has completed 51.9 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and six interceptions. In addition to Cutler’s injury the Bears lost Matt Forte who was having a career year and they have been going with Marion Barber who made two critical mistakes that eventually cost the Bears the lead and then the game in Denver last Sunday. Johnny Knox has 36 receptions, Roy Williams has 26 receptions, and Devin Hester has 25 catches as Forte was also leading Chicago in receptions before the injury. The Bears defense has 29 sacks, 11 fumble recoveries, and 17 interceptions with a plus eight turnover ratio and they have allowed 358.2 yards and 19.6 points per game. Lance Briggs has 93 tackles, Charles Tillman has 86 tackles, and Brian Urlacher has 83 tackles while Julius Peppers has nine sacks. The Bears go to Green Bay on Christmas Night and then travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings.
The Seattle Seahawks aren’t completely out of it yet and after winning a playoff game a year ago they have won four of their last five games. Tarvaris Jackson has completed 60.7 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Marshawn Lynch has gained 969 yards with a 4.3 yards per carry average and nine touchdowns. Doug Baldwin has come out of nowhere to catch 45 passes, Ben Obamanu has 31 catches, and Golden Tate is seeing the field filling in for the injured Sidney Rice. Defensively the Seahawks have 25 sacks, 11 fumble recoveries, and 17 interceptions with a plus four turnover ratio and they allow 335.2 yards and 19.9 points per game. David Hawthorne has 88 tackles, Earl Thomas has 84 tackles, and Leroy Hill has 76 tackles. Seattle closes the season by hosting the 49ers and then at the Cardinals.
Chicago is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games as a favorite, 4-0 against the spread in their last four against the NFC, and 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games overall. Seattle is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games against the NFC, 5-1-1 against the spread following a cover, and 5-14 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
I see this one coming down to a field goal and with Seattle getting more than that they are the play as they cover regardless of who wins.
