Buffalo Bulls vs. St. Bonaventure Bonnies

The Buffalo Bulls look to ride their momentum as they host the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.  The Bull are -6 point favorites over the Bonnies with an over/under point total set at 132.5.

The Buffalo Bulls are coming off of a huge win last time out as Reggie Witherspoon’s team entered Dayton as eight point underdogs and walked out 29 point winners. In Saturday’s game we should find out whether the Bulls have arrived on the college basketball scene or if it was just one very good night. Javon McCrea is averaging 16.8 points and 7.2 rebounds, Zach Filzen is averaging 15.2 points, and Mitchell Watt is averaging 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds. As a team Buffalo is averaging 74.2 points, 42.6 offensive rebounds, and they are shooting 44.8 percent from the floor and defensively they are allowing just 59.8 points and their opponents shoot 36.6 percent from the floor. Buffalo appears to have a team that can contend in the MAC this season.

The St. Bonaventure Bonnies have typified A-10 play over the years as they always seem to fly under the radar but at the same time can sneak up and beat just about anyone on any given day. This year the Bonnies don’t appear to have the firepower to play with teams for the whole 40 minutes as Mark Schmidt’s team seems to play well for a half but has failed to maintain it throughout the whole game. Andrew Nicholson is averaging 14.4 points and 7.8 rebounds, Demetrius Conger is averaging 12.2 points and 5.2 rebounds, and Da’Quan Cook is averaging 7.6 points and 6.2 rebounds. As a team St. Banaventure is averaging 64.6 points and they are shooting 44.2 percent from the floor while their opponents are avering 62.8 points while shooting 44.1 percent. The out of conference schedule doesn’t get easier for the Bonnies and this game looks to have come up tougher than it originally looked on the schedule.

Buffalo is 8-0 against the spread in their last eight games against the A-10, 1-7-2 against the spread following a win, and 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five games as a favorite. St. Bonaventure is 6-2-1 against the spread following a loss, 5-2 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover, and 1-3-1 against the spread against the MAC.

As a rule teams coming off of big upset wins are highly over valued next time out as the public realizes they exist.  I think taking the points with the Bonnies makes the most sense in this game.
