Texas El Paso Miners vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane

The UTEP Miners look to become bowl eligible as they host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.  The Miners are -15 point favorites over the Golden Hurricane with an over/under point total set at 55.

The UTEP Miners took a bad loss to open the 2010 bowl season and they look to make amends by returning to a bowl game this year. Carson Megher will be starting in this one as Nick Lamaison  is still suffering from a groin injury and for the season Megher has completed 66.7 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Joe Banyward is averaging 7.4 yards per carry with 690 yards and four touchdowns, Vernon Frazier is averaging 7.3 yards per carry for 393 yards and three touchdowns, and Leilyon Myers has 313 yards and 10 touchdowns. Mike Edwads leads the UTEP receivers with 39 catches and three touchdowns and Donovon Kemp has 20 catches and 376 yards. The Miners defense has 10 interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and 22 sacks. DeShawn Grayson has 63 tackles, Horace Miller has four sacks, and TraVaun Nixon has four interceptions. UTEP will have their hands full this week when Tulsa rolls into town.

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane are one of the best three loss teams in the nation as all of their three losses have come to teams who are or were ranked in the top five this season: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Boise State. QB G.J. Kinnie has completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Ja’Terian Douglas has 744 yards on the ground and Trey Watts has 712 yards. Willie Carter is Tulsa’s leading receiver with 57 catches for 826 yards and six touchdowns and Bryan Burnham has 44 catches and seven touchdowns. The Golden Hurricane defense has 14 interceptions, nine fumble recoveries, and 17 sacks. Curnelius Arnick has 120 tackles, Tyrunn Walker has four sacks, and Milton Howell and Dexter McCoil have four interceptions each. Tulsa has proved to be a team who can play with anyone on any given day.

UTEP are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games as an underdog, 8-3 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 5-2 against the spread as a home underdog of more than 10.5 points. Tulsa is 4-0 against the spread in their last four road games, 4-0 against the spread in their last four conference games, and 5-2-1 against the spread in their last eight games as a road favorite. The underdog has covered six of the last seven times these two have met.

The total in this one is set at 55 and that number looks like easy pickings here for these two.  Take the over 55 here.
