Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriots
The Philadelphia Eagles host the New England Patriots in a meaningful NFL game on Sunday. The Patriots are -4 point favorites over the Eagles.
The Philadelphia Eagles have gone form “The Dream Team” to a desperate team fighting just to stay alive in the playoff race and more than likely they will need to win out to keep those hopes alive. QB Michael Vick has been vulnerable this year and has taken some shot and those shots keep him questionable for this one after missing last week’s game. Vick has 11 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions and he’s rushed for 535 yards but if he’s unable to go once again it will be Vince Young who was solid in the win last week over the Giants creating plays including engineering a 19 play scoring drive that ended up being the difference on the scoreboard. LeSeaon McCoy is having a Pro Bowl type year averaging 5.4 yards per carry for 1,019 yards and 10 touchdowns and catching 34 passes and scooring two more touchdowns. Jeremy Maclin has 46 catches and four touchdowns, DeSean Jackson has 35 catches and two touchdowns, and last week in the clutch it was Riley Cooper emerging with five catches and the game winning touchdown. The Eagles defense is allowing 333.4 yards per game and 21.3 points while getting 29 sacks, five fumble recoveries, and 11 interceptions but they have a minus 10 turnover margin. Jamar Chaney has 66 tackles, Kurt Coleman has 45 tackles and three interceptions, and Jason Babin has 10 sacks. Philadelphia has a talented roster but winning out is going to be a tall order for them or anyone.
The New England Patriots looked to be down and out but like so many times in the past Bill Belichick has rallied his team for back to back wins and they are two games clear in the AFC East. Tom Brady is getting it done once again completing 65.4 percent of his passes for 3,266 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. BenJarvus Green-Ellis bangs out the tough yards with a 4.0 yards per carry average for 541 yards and five touchdowns and Danny Woodhead has a 4.3 yards per carry average. Wes Welker leads the Pats with 74 receptions for 1,028 yards and six touchdowns, Ron Gronkowski has 56 catches for 805 yards and 10 touchdowns, and Aaron Hernandez has 41 catches and five touchdowns. The New England defense is last in the NFL in yards allowed at 404.2 per game and 20.3 points and they have 23 sacks, four fumble recoveries, and 15 interceptions for a plus five turnover margin. Devin McCourty has 59 tackles, Andre Carter has nine sacks, and Kyle Arrington has seven interceptions. New England’s defense will need to improve further if they hope to go from a good regular season team to a good playoff team this year.
Philadelphia is 4-9 against the spread in their last 13 games overall, 2-5 against the spread following a cover, and 1-7 against the spread in their last eight home games. New England is 4-0 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 6-2-1 against the spread in their last nine road games against a team with a winning record, and 4-1 against the spread after scoring 30 or more points in their previous game. The underdog has covered in the last four meetings of these two.
I like the Patriots to win this game and by more than the four points as they have been the hotter team this season.
