Miami Hurricanes vs. Mississippi Rebels
The Mississippi Rebels and the Miami Hurricanes battle it out on Friday in Oxford. The Rebels are -2 point favorites over the Hurricanes.
The Ole Miss Rebels have already played five games this season and when things have gone well for Andy Kennedy’s team they have gone extremely well and when they have gone bad it’s gone real bad. The Rebels may not be the most talented team in the nation but this is a team that will be hustling and rebounding all season long to scrap out wins. Terrance Henry is averaging 12.2 points and 5.4 rebounds, Murphy Holloway is averaging 10.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, Dundrecous Nelson is averaging 10.8 points per game, and Reginald Butler is averaging 7.5 rebounds per game. As a team Ole Miss is averaging 67.6 points, 42.4 offensive rebounds, and shoot 39.7 percent while they hold the opposition to 60.2 points and a 38.8 shooting percentage. The Rebels lost their best player from a year ago but Kennedy has another year under his belt to make the program his.
It’s been the same story the past several years for the Miami Hurricanes as they put together a nice record before conference play starts but one they begin ACC play they fall to the back of the pack in a hurry. Jim Larranaga can only hope this is the year Miami breaks through in the ACC and earns a spot in March Madness. Malcolm Grant is averaging 16.8 points, Durand Scott is averaging 12.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, Garrius Adams is averaging 8.2 points and 5.0 rebounds, and Kenny Kadji is averaging 7.o points and 6.2 rebounds. As a team Miami is averaging 69 points and they shoot 40.9 percent from the floor while their opponents score just 56.8 points per game and shoot 39.4 percent. If Miami hopes to go to the tournament it could be games like this one that could be the difference.
Ole Miss is 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven home games, 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games following a win, and 5-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Miami is 7-1-1 against the spread in their last nine games against a team with a winning record, 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games overall, and 11-4 against the spread in their last 15 games against SEC teams.
Ole Miss looks vulnerable and against a decent Miami team they may be in trouble here. Take Miami plus the 2 points here.
