Arizona St. Sun Devils vs. DePaul Blue Demons
The Arizona State Sun Devils and the DePaul Blue Demons face off on Sunday afternoon at the Disney Sports Complex in Orlando. The Sun Devils are -1 point favorites over the Blue Demons with an over/under point total set at 141.
It been a rough start to the season for Herb Sendek and the Arizona State Sun Devils but at least they are coming off of a win as they defeated Wake Forest last time out to end their three game losing streak. ASU isn’t short on talent but this is a team that is having trouble shooting and scoring and without being able to do those two things they are going to struggle. Trent Lockett is averaging 17.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, Keala King is averaging 11.8 points and 5.6 rebounds, Carrick Felix is averaging 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds, and Kyle Cain is averaging 7.2 points and 5.6 rebounds. As a team Arizona State is averaging 67.4 points and they are shooting 44.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 65 points and their opponents are shooting 37.9 percent. The Sun Devils’ schedule doesn’t shape up to be overly difficult but it doesn’t appear they have a team that can take advantage of it.
The DePaul Blue Demons have been the doormats of the Big East in recent years but Oliver Purnell is hoping this is the year things start to turn around. DePaul enters this game at 3-1 with their one loss coming by just one point at the hands of Minnesota. Cleveland Melvin is averaging 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, Brandon Young is averaging 19.5 points and 5.2 assists, Jeremiah Kelly is averaging 10.8 points and 4.0 rebounds, and Krys Faber is averaging 8.2 rebounds per game. As a team DePaul is averaging 83 points per game while shooting 50.4 percent from the field while their opponents score 74.5 points per game and shoot 44.7 percent. The Blue Demons are probably going to sneak up and surprise some teams this season.
DePaul is 5-0 against the spread following a win, 5-0 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, and 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 neutral site games. Arizona State is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games against a team with a winning record, 3-10 against the spread following a win, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven neutral site games.
ASU is favored by a point here but quite frankly I don’t see it and what I do see is a blowout with DePaul winning by double digits.
