Air Force Falcons vs. Wyoming Cowboys

The Air Force Falcons and the Wyoming Cowboys battle it out in Mountain West college football action on Saturday.  The Falcons are -3.5 point favorites over the Cowboys with an over/under point total set at 60.5.

The Air Force Falcons have a bowl tie in but they still need to become bowl eligible in order to fulfill it and currently they are one win shy. The Falcons won the Commander In Chief’s Trophy by beating Army last week so while their major goal is fulfilled, it doesn’t diminish the value of a win or a bowl appearance. QB Tim Jefferson Jr. doesn’t throw the ball much but he has completed nearly 60 percent of his passes for 1,129 yards and eight touchdowns with six interceptions and rushing for 364 yards and nine touchdowns. Asher Clark has gained 732 yards on the ground and scored four touchdowns and Mike DeWitt has gained 438 yards and scored six touchdowns. Jonathan Warzeka has caught 24 passes for 327 yards and three touchdowns and Zack Kauth has 19 catches. The Air Force defense has nine interceptions, eight fumble recoveries, and 12 sacks. Brady Amack has 94 tackles, Jon Davis has 68 tackles and three interceptions, and Alex Means has three sacks. This Air Force team isn’t as strong as some of their recent teams but they are still a force to be reckoned with.

While the Wyoming Cowboys aren’t a top 25 ranked team, their success on the field has been one of the better under publicized stories in college football this year. Not much was expected from Wyoming but Dave Christensen has done a nice job with them and they are competing to get bowl eligible. Freshman Brett Smith has completed 61.1 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions. Alvester Alexander has run for 406 yards and four touchdowns and Ghaali Muhammad averages 6.3 yards per carry. Robert Herron has caught 38 passes, Chris McNeil has 33 catches, and Mazi Ogbonna has 25 catches. The Wyoming defense has five interceptions, 13 fumble recoveries, and 18 sacks. Luke Ruff has 65 tackles, Gabe Knapton has five sacks, and Blair Burns has three interceptions. This is a very underrated Wyoming team and they have proven they can play with anyone.

Air Force is 1-5 against the spread in their last six games as a favorite, 0-5 against the spread in their last five home games, and 2-8 against the spread following a win. Wyoming is 11-2 against the spread in their last 13 games as a road underdog, 11-4 against the spread as a road underdog, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall. The underdog has covered in five of the last six meetings of these two.

Air Force has a tendency to put the ball on the carpet and Wyoming is one of the top forcing and recovering of fumbles teams in the nation which could factor here but regardless, Wyoming is under rated and a value here as well.
