St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers tangle once again as they face off in St. Louis. The Cardinal are -130 favorites over the Brewers with an over/under run total set at 7.5.
The St. Louis Cardinals aren’t going to catch the Milwaukee Brewers but that doesn’t mean they are just going to roll over when they meet. On Tuesday Jon Jay and Matt Holliday each homered and Lance Berkman added two hits and an RBI as the Cardianls scored four runs on nine hits for the game. On the mound Kyle Lohse allowed four hits and struck out six over six innings to earn his 13th win and Jason Motte earned his third save despite allowing three hits and a run in the ninth inning. For Wednesday’s game St. Louis starts Chris Carpenter who has three no decisions and a loss in his last four starts, all games the Cardinals lost. For the season Carpenter has allowed 214 hits and 86 earned runs while striking out 159 in 197.1 innings of work.
The Milwaukee Brewers are runaway winners of the National League Central but they know beating the Cardinals will give them confidence and momentum as the post season nears. On Tuesday the Brewers were never able to put their hits together as Nyjer Morgan had three hits and Corey Hart and Jonathan Lucroy each had two hits as the Brewers scored two runs on 10 hits. Starter Yovani Gallardo allowed four hits and three earned runs while striking out five over six innings of work to take his 10th loss of the season. For Wednesday’s game Milwaukee starts Zack Greinke who has won seven of his last eight starts. For the season Greinke has allowed 132 hits and 63 earned runs while striking out 168 in 141.2 innings of work.
St. Louis is 5-1 in their last six games against a team with a winning record, 8-21 in their last 29 Wednesday games, and 0-4 in Carpenter’s last four starts. Milwaukee is 19-8 in their last 27 road games, 40-16 in their last 56 overall, and 17-5 in Greinke’s last 22 starts. Milwaukee is 1-5 in the last six meetings of these two.
We haven’t seen a ton of runs scored in the recent meetings of these two and I don’t see that changing here with this match up. Take the Under 7.5 here.
