St. Louis Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves

After playing extra innings on Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves meet again on Saturday Night.  The Cardinals are -160 favorites over the Braves with an over/under run total set at 8.

The St. Louis Cardinals are playing for pride but they have been playing very well against teams that are going to the post season. On Friday Albert Pujols had three hits and two RBI’s, Lance Berkman had three hits, and Rafael Furcal had a hit and scored twice as the Cardinals scored four runs off of 13 hits. Starter Edwin Jackson allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out five over six innings to not factor in the decision as Jason Motte picked up his fourth win by pitching the 10th inning. For Saturday’s game St. Louis starts Jaime Garcia who won last time out to end a winless drought that lasted over a month. For the season Garcia has allowed 184 hits and 69 earned runs while striking out 138 in 170 innings of work.

The Atlanta Braves let one get away on Friday Night and while they look to be a lock for the post season, it’s tough to take anything for granted. Michael Bourn had four hits, Freddie Freeman had two hits, and Brian McCann and Chipper Jones each had hits as the Braves had 10 hits and scored three runs. On the mound Randall Delgado allowed three hits and a run while striking out three over five innings to not factor in the decision while Craig Kimbrel blew his sixth save of the year and Scott Linebrink took his third loss of the year. For Saturday’s rematch Atlanta starts Derek Lowe who has lost two of his last three starts. For the season Lowe has allowed 182 hits and 87 earned runs while striking out 124 in 168.1 innings of work.

St. Louis is 7-1 in their last eight games against a team with a winning record, 8-3 in their last 11 games overall, and 9-4 in Garcia’s last 13 starts. Atlanta is 1-5 in their last six games as a road underdog, 1-8 in their last nine road games against a team with a winning home record, and 1-4 in Lowe’s last five road starts. Atlanta is 3-9 in the last 12 meetings of these two.

These are two pitchers who have struggled and really two of the better teams in baseball this year and we should see plenty of solid hitting and scoring here.  Take the over 8 here.
