For the season Colon has allowed 138 hits and 56 earned runs while striking out 116 in 138.2 innings of work.
The Toronto Blue Jays have nothing to hang their head about this season but the reality of it is they just don’t have the guns to compete in the A.L. East as far as winning the division. On Friday Eric Thames had two hits and scored a run, Jose Bautista had a hit and a RBI and Yunel Escobar scored a run as the Blue Jays had four hits and two runs of offense in the entire game. On the mound Brandon Morrow allowed four hits and three runs while striking out eight over six innings of work to take his 10th loss of the year. For Saturday’s game Toronto starts Ricky Romero who has been outstanding this season. For the year Romero has allowed 145 hits and 59 earned runs while striking out 152 in 187 innings of work.
New York is 5-1 in their last six games overall, 24-7 in their last 31 games against a left handed starter, and 2-5 in Colon’s last seven starts against the A.L. East. Toronto is 1-6 in their last seven games as an underdog, 5-2 in their last seven game two of a series, and 8-0 in Romero’s last eight starts. Toronto is 1-5 in their last six meetings in New York.
While the Yankees have been red hot, Romero has been as good as any pitcher in baseball of late giving the Jays a big edge here facing Colon.
