New York Mets vs. Florida Marlins

The New York Mets and the Florida Marlins meet for the fifth time in four days at Citi Field on Thursday.  The Mets are -120 favorites over the Marlins with an over/under run total set at 8.5.

The New York Mets have finally figured out the Florida Marlins but for them it is too late in the season for them to be figuring out anything. On Wednesday Jason Bay had three hits and an RBI, David Wright had two hits and scored a run, and Jose Reyes had two hits and scored as the Mets scored three times on nine hits. Starter Chris Capuano allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out four over five innings to not factor in the decision as it was Manny Acosta who pitched the seventh inning to get the win and Bobby Parnell picked up  his third save of the season. For Thursday’s series finale New York starts Miguel Batista who makes his first appearance since coming to the Mets from the Cardinals. For the season Batista has allowed 27 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 16 in 29.1 innings of work.

The Florida Marlins’ goal at this point of the season is to not finish in the basement in the National League East but they haven’t done anything to help themselves this series. On Wednesday Omar Infante, Gaby Sanchez, and Jose Lopez all had two hits each as the Marlins scored twice on nine hits. Starter Chris Volstad allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out four over 6.1 innings of work to take his 12th loss of the season. For Thursday’s game Florida starts Clay Hensley who got his second win of the season in his last start. For the year Hensley has allowed 54 hits and 33 earned runs while striking out 34 in 55 innings of work.

New York is 5-1 in their last six against the N.L. East, 4-1 in their last five games against a right handed starter, and 3-7 in their last 10 games as a home favorite. Florida is 4-0 in their last four game five of a series, 7-20 in their last 27 games overall, and 1-5 in Hensley’s last six starts. Florida is 7-3 in their last 10 games in New York.

I just don’t see much as far as pitching in this one and we should see plenty of scoring as this one goes over.
