New York Mets vs. Cincinnati Reds

The New York Mets and the Cincinnati Reds play game one of their final series of the 2011 MLB season.  The Reds are -125 favorites over the Mets with an over/under run total set at 8.5.

A season of turmoil off the field and a gutting of the roster on the field begin to come to a close for the New York Mets as they play game one of their final series of the year. The Mets are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 33-45 at home this season, and are 23 games back in the division, solidly in fourth place in the N.L. East. As a team New York is hitting .264 led by Jose Reyes at .330, Lucas Duda at .292, and Ruben Tejada at .280. As a team the Mets pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.19 with the starters at 4.13 and the bullpen at 4.31. For game one against the Reds new York starts Chris Schwinden who has yet to win in his three starts. For the season Schwinden has allowed 18 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 12 over 16 innings of work.

The Cincinnati Reds have a bright future ahead of them and while they took a step back this season they have a lot to look forward to. The Reds are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 35-43 on the road, and they are 17 games back in the National League Central. As a team Cincinnati is hitting .256 led by Joey Votto at .312, Brandon Phillips at .301, and Jay Bruce at .256. As a team the Reds pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.17 with the starters at 4.44 and the bullpen at 3.65. For game one at Citi Field Cincinnati starts Homer bailey who has won his last two decisions. For the season Bailey has allowed 127 hits and 61 earned runs while striking out 99 over 127 innings of work.

New York is 2-7 in their last nine home games, 1-11 in their last 12 home games against a team with a losing record, and 1-4 in their last five games against the N.L. Central. Cincinnati is 3-6 in their last nine game soverall, 1-4 in their last five road games, and 2-10 in Bailey’s last 12 starts against the N.L. East. New York has won four in a row in this series.

The Reds haven’t played well on the road and the Mets have been poor at home so this should be a bad meaningless game and look for just not much to happen and for it to fall under the total.
