Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins

The Bottom two teams in the American League Central face off as the Kansas City Royals host the Minnesota Twins. The Royals are -145 favorites over the Twins with an over/under run total set at 9.

It’s another losing season for the Kansas City Royals but while they have been talked about as up and comers before, now there is real reason for hope as the Royals have one of the better lineups in baseball. The Royals have won their last two games, are 5-5 in their last 10 games, and are 34-39 at home this season. As a team Kansas City is hitting .269 led by Alex Gordon at .299, Melky Cabrera at .298, and Billy Butler at .293. As a team the Royals pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.53 with the starters at 5.00 and the bullpen at 3.69. For game one against the Twins Kansas City starts Bruce Chen who has lost his last two starts. For the season Chen has allowed 131 hits and 60 earned runs while striking out 79 in 125 innings of work.

The Minnesota Twins have gone from first to worst and while the Twins had a lot of injuries, it has still been a tough year for the team that is simply used to better. The Twins have lost three games in a row, are 2-8 in their last 10 games, and 29-45 on the road this season. As a team Minnesota is hitting .245 led by Joe Mauer at .290, Michael Cuddyer at .282, and Alexi Casilla at .260. As a team the Twins have a combined ERA of 4.50 with the starters at 4.51 and the bullpen at 4.50. For game one at KC Minnesota starts Carl Pavano who has won his last two starts. For the season Pavano has allowed 231 hits and 97 earned runs while striking out 85 over 193 innings of work.

Kansas City is 2-5 in their last seven home games, 16-35 in their last 51 games following an off day, and 3-11 in their last 14 games following a win. Minnesota is 15-38 in their last 53 games overall, 7-19 in their last 26 against the A.L. Central, and 0-5 in their last five road games. Minnesota has won their last four games in Kansas City.

We have two pitchers who on average give up plenty between them to get to the over and this one should have no problem getting past the total.  Take the over 9.
