Kansas City Royals vs. Detroit Tigers
The Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers meet on Wednesday in Kansas City. The Tigers are -135 favorites over the Royals with an over/under run total set at 9.
The Kansas City Royals continue to build for the future and every game is a learning experience and has something to build on for the future. On Tuesday Eric Hosmer had five hits and drove in three runs and Miguel Cabrera and Salvador Perez each had three hits as the Royals pounded out 16 hits scoring 10 runs. On the mound Luis Mendoza allowed six hits and two runs while striking out three over seven innings of work to earn his first win. For Wednesday’s game Kansas City starts Felipe Paulino who has a win and two no decisions in his last three starts. For the season Paulino has allowed 111 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 102 over 113.2 innings of work.
The Detroit Tigers have the A.L. Central wrapped up but they still have a chance at home field advantage in the American League playoffs. On Tuesday Austin Jackson had two hits and Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez had a hit each as the Tigers scored two runs on nine hits. On the mound Brad Penny allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs while lasting just four innings to take his 11th loss of the year. For Wednesday’s game Detroit starts Max Scherzer who has two losses and a win in his last three decisions. For the season Scherzer has allowed 195 hits and 90 earned runs while striking out 162 in 184.1 innings of work.
Kansas City is 8-1 in their last nine games overall, 4-1 in their last five games as an underdog, and 4-1 in Paulino’s last five starts. Detroit is 21-7 in their last 28 games against a right handed starter, 6-3 in their last nine games against a team with a losing record, and 4-9 in Scherzer’s last 13 games as a road favorite. Detroit is 9-5 in their last 14 games in Kansas City.
This one looks like another game for the hitters and I like the way the Royals are swinging the bats and getting them at a price at home against an unmotivated Tigers team looks like the play. Take the Royals plus the 115.
