On Friday John Jaso homered, had three RBI’s, and scored twice, Evan Longoria had two hits, and Johnny Damon had a hit, an RBI, and scored a run as the Rays scored seven times off of nine hits in the win. Starter Wade Davis went the distance allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out eight over the full nine innings for his 10th win of the season. For Saturday’s rematch Tampa Bay starts Jeremy Hellickson who won last time out to end a personal two game losing streak. For the season Hellickson has allowed 130 hits and 53 earned runs while striking out 107 in in 164.1 innings of work.
The Boston Red Sox are starting to look over their shoulders as what looked like a sure thing as far as making the post season, doesn’t look to be as certain right now. On Friday Josh Reddick had two hits and jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia each had hits as the Red Sox scored twice off of six hits. Starter John Lackey was hit hard as he allowed five hits and five runs lasting just three innings to take his 12th loss of the season. For Saturday’s game Boston starts Kyle Weiland who makes his second start of the year and his fourth appearance in the Majors. For the season Weiland has allowed 15 hits and nine earned runs while striking out four over 12 innings of work.
Tampa Bay is 5-1 in their last six games overall, 8-2 in their last 10 against the A.L. East, and 5-1 in Hellickson’s last six home starts. Boston is 20-7 in their last 27 game two of a series, 2-5 in their last seven games as an underdog, and 1-5 in their last six games overall. Boston is 4-2 in their last six games at Tampa Bay.
