Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies
The Atlanta Braves get another chance to control their own destiny in the post season as they host the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. The Phillies are -115 favorites over the Braves with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Atlanta Braves jumped out to an early lead on Monday but like their lead in the Wild Card race, by the time it counted the lead had evaporated. Chipper Jones homered, Dan Uggla had two hits, and Matt Diaz had a hit and scored a run as the Braves scored two runs off of seven hits. On the mound Randall Delgado allowed five hits and two earned runs but didn’t factor in the decision as Cristhian Martinez allowed a hit and a run in just a third of an inning of work to take his third loss of the year. For Tuesday’s game Atlanta starts Derek Lowe who has been the weakest pitcher in their starting rotation this year. For the season Lowe has allowed 206 hits and 100 earned runs while striking out 135 in 183 innings of work.
The Philadelphia Phillies win total hit triple digits as they won for the 100th time this year on Monday. Jimmy Rollins homered to tie the game and had two hits and Ryan Howard, Shane Victorino, and Raul Ibanez each had two hits as the Phillies scored four runs on 10 hits. On the mound Cliff Lee had his last warm up for the post season as he allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out six over six innings to earn his 17th win of the season and Ryan Madson pitched the ninth inning to earn his 32nd save. For Tuesday game Philadelphia starts Roy Oswalt who has lost two of his last three starts. For the season Oswalt has allowed 150 hits and 57 earned runs while striking out 89 over 133 innings of work.
Atlanta is 4-1 in their last five games as a home underdog, 2-6 in their last eight games overall, and 1-5 in Lowe’s last six starts against a team with a winning record. Philadelphia is 23-8 in their last 31 games as a road favorite, 10-2 in their last 12 road games against a team with a winning record, and 2-6 in Oswalt’s last eight road starts. The Phillies have won five in a row in this series.
The Braves are folding badly but the Phillies have struggled of late and Oswalt hasn’t been very dependable so look for plenty of scoring and for a wild one to go over the total.
