Washington Nationals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

The Washington Nationals and the Arizona Diamondbacks conclude their series in Washington on Thursday.  The Nationals are -145 favorites over the Diamondbacks with an over/under run total set at 8.5.

The Washington Nationals won game one of the four game series against Arizona but have lost the last two and are looking to salvage a tie. On Tuesday Laynce Nix had two hits including a home run, Jonny Gomes had a home run, and Ian Desmond had three hits as the Nationals scored twice on nine hits. On the mound Livan Hernandez allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out five over 7.1 innings of work to take the loss. On Thursday Washington goes for the series split with Jon Lannan who has lost his last two starts. For the year Lannan has allowed 148 hits and 59 earned runs while striking out 85 over 147 innings of work.

The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to lead the National League West but they know with the defending World Series champion Giants on their heels they are anything but comfortably ahead. On Tuesday Ryan Roberts and Gerardo Parra each had two hits and Miguel Montero had a hit and drove in two runs. Starter Daniel Hudson allowed nine hits and two runs, both of tghem in the ninth inning, while striking out six over 8.2 innings to earn his 13th save while J.J. Putz retired the final batter to earn his 32nd save. For Thursday’s game Arizona starts Wade Miley who makes his second start of the year. In his first start at Atlanta Miley allowed seven hits and five earned runs while striking out five over four innings.

Washington is 4-1 in their last five as a home favorite, 9-5 in their last 14 home games, and 7-2 in Lannan’s last nine starts as a favorite. Arizona is 6-2 in their last eight game four of a series, 1-6 in their last seven games as an underdog, and 2-6 in their last eight against the N.L. East. Arizona is 3-6 in their last nine games in Washington.

This under has dominated this match up and I don’t see a lot of reason for that to change in this one.  Take the over 8.5 herer.
