Tampa Bay Rays vs. Seattle Mariners
The Tampa Bay Rays and the Seattle Mariners meet for game two of their weekend series at Tropicana Field. The Rays are -210 favorites over the Mariners with an over/under run total set at 8.5.
The Tampa Bay Rays are going on a run to close out the season and while it looks like they are still going to wind up falling short of catching the Red Sox and the Yankees, they have nothing to hang their heads about. On Friday Johnny Damon and Sam Fuld had hits and scored and Evan Longoria and Ben Zobrist each had hits and drove in runs as the Rays scored three times on six hits in the win. On the mound starter Wade Davis allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out eight over seven innings of work to not factor in the decision As Juan Cruz got his fifth win of the year and Kyle Farnsworth earned his 22nd save. For Saturday’s rematch Tampa Bay starts Jeremy Hellickson who has pitched well of late despite losing last time out. For the season Hellickson has allowed 108 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 90 over 134.1 innings of work.
The Seattle Mariners looked to be headed towards a win on Friday but they allowed two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning which proved to be the difference and sent them home losers on the night. Kyle Seager had two hits including a home run, Ichiro Suzuki had two hits, and Trayvon Robinson had a hit and scored a run as the Mariners scored twice on eight hits. Starter Felix Hernandez allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out nine over eight innings to take his 11th loss of the year. For Saturday’s game Seattle starts Charlie Furbush who has won two of his three starts since being traded to the Mariners. Since the trade Furbush has allowed 15 hits and nine earned runs while striking out nine over 17 innings of work.
Tampa Bay is 5-0 in their last five home games as a favorite, 5-0 in their last five home games, and 5-2 in Hellickson’s last five home starts. Seattle is 17-36 in their last 53 games overall, 5-14 in their last 19 against the American League East, and 3-14 in their last 17 road games against a right handed starter. Seattle is 1-5 in their last six games in Tampa Bay.
The Rays should win this easily therefore I am willing to lay the 210.
