St. Louis Rams vs. Tennessee Titans
The St. Louis Rams and the Tennessee Titans look to stay unbeaten in the preseason as they meet for a week two game in St. Louis. The Rams are -3.5 favorites over the Titans with an over/under point total set at 36.
The St. Louis Rams were one of the most improved teams last season and this year they look to turn the corner and return to the playoffs for the first time since “The Greatest Show on Turf” teams which seems like a long time ago. In game one against the Colts the Rams left QB Sam Bradford in for 24 plays as they work in new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels system and Bradford went seven of 12 for 45 yards and a touchdown passing and A.J. Feeley surprised no one as a capable backup with Thaddeus Lewis getting mop up duty. Steven Jackson didn’t play but after what seems like an eternity, the Rams appear to have found depth a running back with Cadillac Williams and Jerrious Norwood. Tight End Lance Kendricks was a primary target catching five passes, one of them for a touchdown, and Danario Alexander and Mardy Gilyard also were effective catching the ball. Kicker Josh Brown may have been the star of the show going four for four in field goals including a 60 yarder before the half. The Rams defense failed to get a sack but Quintin Mikell and Craig Dahl booth recorded interceptions and Chris Chamberlain was the leading tackler with three. With Bradford going that deep in game one, look for more of the same in this one as the Rams continue to be a work in progress and while they were improved last season, they have plenty to improve on and work in especially with a new offense.
While the Tennessee Titans had a down year last season, rumors of their demise might be a bit premature as they looked sharp in their week one game against the Minnesota Vikings. New QB Matt Hasselbeck looked sharp in his one series completing five of six passes for 55 yards but rookie first round pick Jake Locker stole the show going seven of 10 for 89 yards including a touchdown. With Chris Johnson still holding out the Titans need to plan to play without him and in his absence Jevon Ringer carried three times for 17 yards, Stefon Johnson carried five times for 19 yards, Herb Donaldson and Jamie Harper combined for 14 carries. Yamon Figurs was on the receiving end of Locker’s 45 yard TD pass while Nate Washington caught just one pass and Damien Williams and Lavelle Hawkins each caught two balls. Defensively Derrick Morgan, Zach Clayton, Myron Rolle, and Pete Ittersagen all had sacks and Jordan Babineaux had an interception. The Titans have talent and at QB they appear to have upgraded and we’ll see plenty more of Hasselbeck and Locker here.
I see this game as a pick at best and maybe the way Brown is kicking the Rams have an edge there and get the win with a late field goal but it isn’t enough to cover this number.
