New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays
The New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays meet for game two of their series at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. The Yankees are -150 favorites over the Rays with an over/under run total set at 9.
The New York Yankees have been extremely tough to beat at home this season but they were the ones getting roughed up as they fell to the Rays on Friday. Robinson Cano had a hit and scored a run and Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira each had hits as the Yankees converted six hits into a run. On the mound C.C. Sabathia allowed 10 hits and five earned runs on five solo home runs while striking out seven over eight innings of work as he failed to get his 17th win and instead took his seventh loss of the year. For Saturday’s rematch New York starts Phil Hughes who has lost two of his last three starts. For the season Hughes has allowed 52 hits and 30 earned runs while striking out 20 over 38 innings of work.
The Tampa Bay Rays are probably done for the year but that doesn’t mean they are ready to quit or that they don’t get any satisfaction in beating teams like the Yankees. On Friday Casey Kotchman, Kelly Shoppach, Johnny Damon, Elliot Johnson, and Evan Longoria each hit solo homers as the Rays scored five times on 12 hits. On the mound David Price allowed six hits and a run while striking out four over eight innings of work to get his 10th win of the season. For Saturday’s game Tampa Bay starts Jeremy Hellickson who has won his last three decisions including a win over the Yankees. For the season Hellickson has allowed 100 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 86 over 130 innings of work.
New York is 7-3 in their last 10 games against a right handed starter, 38-19 in their last 57 games overall, and 4-0 in Hughes’ last four starts against a team with a winning record. Tampa Bay is 5-0 in their last five games overall, 6-2 in their last eight games as a road underdog, and 4-1 in Hellickson’s last five starts. Tampa Bay is 31-65 in their last 96 games in New York.
There is some real value here on the Rays and at this price they are well worth taking. Take the Rays plus the 150.
