New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves
The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves meet for game one of their series at Citi Field on Friday. The Braves are -120 favorites over the Mets with an over/under run total set at 7.5.
The Florida Marlins couldn’t get out of town fast enough for the New York Mets as once again the Mets had no luck in their series. While the Mets are at .500 on the season, they have lost four games in a row, are 5-5 in their last 10 games, and 22-28 at home this season. As a team New York is hitting .26 led by Jose Reyes at .339, Daniel Murphy at .319, and Ronny Paulino at .304. As a team the Mets pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.01 with the starters at 3.96 and the bullpen at 4.11. For game one against the Braves New York starts R.A. Dickey who lost last time out despite pitching well. For the season Dickey has allowed 144 hits and 59 earned runs while striking out 95 in 140.2 innings of work.
The Atlanta Braves grabbed a win in Washington but for the most part they were embarrassed by the upstart Nats and have all but eliminated their chances of winning the National League East. The Braves are 5-5 in their last 10 games, 30-26 on the road this year, and trail the Phillies by eight games in the division. As a team Atlanta is hitting .243 with Michael Bourn hitting .308, Freddie Freeman at .298, and Martin Prado at .272. As a team the Braves pitching staff has a combined ERA of 3.33 with the starters at 3.59 and the bullpen at 2.83. For game one against the Mets Atlanta starts Tim Hudson who clearly isn’t the pitcher he was a year ago but who hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any of his last 10 starts. For the season Hudson has allowed 123 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 104 in 141.1 innings of work.
New York is 2-5 in their last seven home games, 0-4 in their last four against the N.L. East, and 6-2 in Dickey’s last eight starts. Atlanta is 7-3 in their last 10 game one of a series, 1-4 in their last five road games, and 1-4 in Hudson’s last five road starts. New York has won four of the last five meetings of these two.
Both of these pitchers keep the numbers down and I look for this one to be a solid under.
