New England Patriots vs. New York Giants
The New England Patriots and the New York Giants meet for their final preseason games of 2011. The Patriots are -7 points favorites over the Giants with an over/under point total set at 40.
While it’s the last preseason game and most coaches rest the starters, there won’t be any premium NFL picks for this week but we’ll be back to normal next week for the season openers. This week’s free NFL picks are based on hunches and who we may see a lot of as who will play making them little more than leans in contests I won’t personally have anything riding on it.
The New England Patriots were looking like one of the more polished teams this preseason when they headed into Detroit for week three but they ran into a buzz saw getting battered and beaten down by the Lions in a game that could have ended up costing them a lot when Wes Welker went down. Welker should be OK but we aren’t going to see Tom Brady in this spot as much as Patriot fans would love to see their hero show up the opposition, primarily Eli Manning. With it just being a preseason game the concerns are somewhat muted but the Patriots offensive line struggled mightily in Detroit, something that has to concern them. It should be Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett under center in this one with Stevan Ridley, Richard Medlin and others as they face another good defense in the Giants.
The New York Giants had some big injuries this preseason and will more than likely tread lightly into this one as they try and keep everyone healthy for their opener. The Giants have a limited amount of rest after playing on Monday Night after a two day delay so don’t look for much game planning by Tom Coughlin here, just more the Giants trying to do what they do and do it with the backups playing exclusively. In this one we should see Sage Rosenfels, Darius Reynaud, Victor Cruz, and other backups and not Manning, Hakeem Nicks, Ahmad Bradshaw and the other Giants starters.
Playing a game on a Monday and returning to the field on Thursday is really unheard of in the NFL and something Tom Coughlin isn’t happy about. Look for the Giants to be vanilla in this one and to basically lie down. Take the Patriots minus the 7.
