Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox

The Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox meet for game one of their weekend series at Target Field with the series loser more than likely being done in the American League Central Race.  The White Sox are -120 favorites over the Twins with an over/under run total set at 8.5.

The Minnesota Twins aren’t done yet but if they are going to get into contention they are going to need to do it starting right now. The Twins are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 26-25 at home this season, and are eight games back in the American League Central. As a team Minnesota is hitting .252 led by Michael Cuddyer at .301, Joe Mauer at .294, and Alexi Casilla at .259. As a team the Twins pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.37 with the starters at 4.25 and the bullpen at 4.61. For game one against the White Sox Minnesota starts Nick Blackburn who has lost his last two starts. For the season Blackburn has allowed 158 hits and 65 earned runs while striking out 70 in 130.1 innings of work.

The Chicago White Sox just finished a rough stretch of games at home where they essentially played three series against first place teams and were roughed up. The White Sox have lost six games in arrow, are 3-7 in their last 10 games, and 28-26 on the road this season. As a team Chicago is hitting .251 led by Paul Konerko who has been out of late with an injury after being hit by a pitch, followed by A.J. Pierzynski at .287, and Juan Pierre at .277. As a team the White Sox pitching staff has a combined ERA of 3.85 with the starters at 3.95 and the bullpen at 3.63. For game one at Target Field Chicago starts Mark Buehrle who has won his last two decisions. For the season Buehrle has allowed 145 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 74 over 140 innings of work.

Minnesota is 7-2 in their last nine games against a left handed starter, 19-9 in their last 28 home games ,and 5-2 in Blackburn’s last seven home starts. Chicago is 4-1 in their last five against the A.L. Central, 2-7 in their last nine against a team with a losing record, and 6-1 in Buehrle’s last seven starts. Chicago is 6-24 in their last 30 games in Minnesota.

While the Twins have dominated the White Sox, this game and series will be a considerable step down ion the level of competition that they have been facing so look for Chicago to get a much needed win.
