Minnesota Twins vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Minnesota Twins and the Baltimore Orioles meet for game two of their series at Target Field. The Twins are -150 favorites over the Orioles with an over/under run total set at 9.
While it’s been a disappointing season for the Minnesota Twins, their play of late has gotten even worse than it had been just a few months back. On Monday Trevor Plouffe, Joe Mauer, and Michael Cuddyer each had two hits as the Twins scored just once off of eight hits. On the mound Carl Pavano wasn’t horrible as he allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out three over seven innings to take his 10th loss of the season. For Tuesday’s rematch Minnesota starts Brian Duensing who has lost his last four starts. For the season Duensing has allowed 168 hits and 76 earned runs while striking out 102 in 144 innings of work.
The Baltimore Orioles have the worst record in the American League but as we saw on Monday, that hasn’t stopped them from getting their swings in. J.J. hardy and Matt Wieters both homered and Mark Reynolds had two hits as the Orioles scored four times on nine hits. On the mound starter Zach Britton was as good as we have seen him be as he allowed six hits and a run while striking out four over five innings to earn his seventh win of the season. For Tuesday’s rematch Baltimore starts Alfredo Simon who has lost four of his last five decisions. For the season Simon has allowed 82 hits and 35 earned runs while striking out 43 over 67.1 innings of work.
Minnesota is 5-16 in their last 21 games overall, 2-10 in their last 12 home games, and 1-6 in Duensing’s last seven starts in game two of a series. Baltimore is 14-38 in their last 52 games overall, 16-40 in thei rlast 56 games as an underdog, and 3-7 in their last 10 games against the American League Central. Baltimore is 4-7 in the last 11 meetings of these two.
This is a lousy game between two lousy teams that can’t be depended on but if I were to take a flyer I would go with the Twins. Take the Twins minus the 150.
