Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies
The Cincinnati Reds and the Colorado Rockies meet for game three of their series at Great American Ballpark. The Reds are -175 favorites over the Rockies with an over/under run total set at 9.5.
The Cincinnati Reds have played themselves out of contention in the National League Central and it’s safe to say they won’t be playing in the post season this year. On Tuesday Ramon Hernandez had three hits, Edgar Renteria had two hits, and Drew Stubbs had a hit as the Reds scored just two runs off of nine hits. Dontrelle Willis pitched well but not well enough as he allowed five hits and three runs while striking out 10 over eight innings of work to take his second loss of the year. For Wednesday’s game Cincinnati starts Mike Leake who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Leake has allowed 114 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 88 in 119.1 innings of work.
The Colorado Rockies have been done for a while but they have won their first two games of this series in Cincinnati. On Tuesday Troy Tulowitzki homered, Dexter Fowler had two hits, and Carlos Gonzalez scored a run as the Rockies scored three times off of five hits. On the mound Esmil Rogers allowed eight hits and two runs while striking out six over six innings of work to earn his sixth win of the year and Rafael Betancourt pitched the ninth for his first save. On Wednesday Colorado starts Kevin Millwood who makes his first start of the year and his first start for Colorado. Last season Millwood allowed 223 hits and 108 earned runs while striking out 132 in 190.2 innings of work.
Cincinnati is 6-2 in their last eight against the National League West, 1-5 in their last six games overall, and 5-2 in Leake’s last seven starts against the N.L. West. Colorado is 5-1 in their last six road games, 5-9 in their last 14 games against the N.L. Central, and 6-22 in their last 28 game three of a series. Colorado is 9-2 in their last 11 meetings in Cincinnati.
Cincinnati is done and playing like it but in this match up they should get into the Rockies bullpen in a hurry and get a win to boost morale at least.
