Arizona Diamondbacks vs. New York Mets

The Arizona Diamondbacks go for the sweep as they met the New York Mets in their weekend series finale at Chase Field. The Diamondbacks are -145 favorites over the Mets with an over/under run total set at 10.

The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to lead the National League West and on Saturday they won for the fifth consecutive time. On Saturday Ryan Roberts had two hits including a three run home run and Willie Bloomquist and Jay Upton each had a hit and scored as the Diamondbacks scored six runs on seven hits. On the mound starter Daniel Hudson allowed eight hits and four runs, two of them earned, while striking out four over eight innings to earn his 12th win of the year and J.J. Putz earned his 29th save. For Sunday’s game Arizona starts Jason Marquis who has lost four of his last five decisions. For the season Marquis has allowed 151 hits and 64 earned runs while striking out 74 in 128.2 innings of work.

The New York Mets have played hard for the better part of the season but as we enter the final months, the Mets appear spent and their level of play has dropped. On Saturday Ronny Paulino, Mike Baxter, and Rueben Tejada all had two hits each as they scored four runs on eight hits. On the mound starter Mike Pelfrey allowed four hits and three runs, two of them earned over four innings giving way to D.J. Carrasco who allowed a hit and two runs in an inning of work to take the loss, his third of the season. For Sunday’s game New York starts Chris Capuano who hasn’t had a decision in his last two starts. For the season Capuano has allowed 143 hits and 67 earned runs while striking out 110 in 133.2 innings of work.

Arizona is 5-0 in their last five games as a favorite, 5-0 in their last five games against a team with a losing record, and 8-3 in their last 11 home games against a team with a winning road record. New York is 2-6 in their last eight games against the National League West, 3-10 in their last 13 games overall, and 5-2 in Capuano’s last seven road starts. New York has lost five in a row in Arizona.

We have two pitchers who have been struggling and two teams who don’t come up with tons of hits but are very efficient offensively. This one is going over.
