Texas Rangers vs. Oakland Athletics
The Texas Rangers look to hit the All Star Break with a full head of steam as the host the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. The Rangers are -160 favorites over the Athletics with an over/under run total set at 9.
It’s still a somber mood in Arlington following the tragedy at the ball park on Thursday but the games continue on as the Rangers continue to win. Mike Napoli, Ian Kinsler, and Adrian Beltre all homered as Napoli had three hits and four RBI’s while scoring twice and Elvis Andrus chipped in two hits as part of a 10 hit eight run offensive night for the Rangers. On the mound C.J. Wilson allowed five hits and four runs while striking out eight over seven innings of work to get his ninth win of the season. On Saturday Texas looks for their sixth win in a row as they send Colby Lewis to the mound for the start. For the season Lewis has allowed 102 hits and 51 earned runs while striking out 87 in 107 innings of work and he has won his last three decisions.
The Oakland Athletics are moving in the wrong direction in the standings as they are now 10 games back in the AL West. On Friday Scott Sizemore homered, Josh Willingham had two hits, and Coco Crisp scored twice as the A’s scored five times on six hits. On the mound starter Gio Gonzalez allowed seven hits and three earned runs while striking five over four innings of work to take his sixth loss of the season. For Saturday’s rematch Oakland starts Brandon McCarthy who has lost his last five decisions. For the season McCarthy has allowed 72 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 42 over 70.1 innings of work.
Texas is 5-0 in their last five home games, 1-7 in their last eight game three of a series, and 2-5 in Lewis’ last seven home starts. Oakland is 3-7 in their last 10 games against a right handed starter, 6-21 in theor last 27 road games, and 1-4 in McCarthy’s last five road starts.
It’s tough to think Oakland has much of a chance here as McCarthy just doesn’t stack up with the rest of their staff who hasn’t been faring too well in Arlington. Ill take the Rangers minus the 160.
