North Korea vs. Colombia

The other match from Group C is between two sides that are officially eliminated from the tournament, as North Korea who lost 1-0 to Sweden take on Colombia in Bochum, Germany who themselves suffered a 3-0 beating at the hands of USA.

Although North Korea haven’t scored a goal in this tournament it’s not necessarily because they are playing badly, in fact they have acquitted themselves quite well and play with a high work rate. They played the USA quite close for the majority of the game and against Sweden they should have at least taken a point, unfortunately they just didn’t have the finishing touch when it counted. Coach Kim Kwang Min will want his team to exit the tournament on a high note, players like midfielders Kim Su-Gyong, Jo Yun-Mi and forward Ra Un-Sim will want to take this final opportunity to display their skills while everyone is watching. Kim Su-Gyong has been particularly impressive, she isn’t shy when it comes to taking a shot on goal but she also has been the primary option when in open space.

As for Colombia, this is a young team that will have benefited from the experience and know that the future is bright for women’s soccer in Colombia. Hopefully this isn’t the last time we see this team at the highest level, they play an attractive style and will only get better with age. Coach Ricardo Rozo has a star in the making in Yoreli Rincon, and although she didn’t have the best tournament at only 17 years old she has time to grow and improve. Other players that have been really fun to watch were Carmen Rodallega and Lady Andrade; they showed comfort on the ball and ability to make plays for themselves and others.

Even though both teams are eliminated this match looks like an interesting clash of styles, the high pressure and work rate of North Korea against the passing and movement of Colombia. I’ll go with the over in this one, even though neither team has shown scoring punch I think there will be more chances created especially because it’s their last match in the spotlight.
