New Zealand vs. Mexico

This match from Group B sees New Zealand now officially eliminated due to their 2-1 loss to England take on Mexico at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena in Sinsheim, Germany who were utterly dismantled by Japan to the tune of a 4-0 result.

New Zealand although eliminated has played much better this time then in the past, they were close to earning a point against Japan and took the early lead against England. The team looked better going forward and is more astute tactically as they use the whole field; the one aspect they must improve on is their stamina. The Football Ferns seem to fade as the game progresses and revert back to old habits, if they ever make it back to this tournament that is something they need to work on. Coach John Herdman will have liked the play of Amber Hearn and Sarah Gregorius; their ability to link with each other has given New Zealand their goal scoring threat and the best chance to win. Also their ability in the wide positions through the likes of Ria Percival, she has played well in defense but has been a bigger asset when supporting the likes of Hearn and Gregorius with balls into the box.

As for Mexico, they will need to rebound after the big defeat to Japan as they still have an outside chance of qualifying. Coach Leonardo Cuéllar will need his charges to keep the faith and worry about winning this match, they can’t be concerned about the other score line because it’s out of their control but also New Zealand have looked good at times and deserve respect. For El Tri to have any chance of earning qualification they will need Maribel Dominguez and Dinora Garza to fuel the attack and finish any chances they create but will also need to force New Zealand to work for the full ninety min.

I like the over in this match, New Zealand have nothing to lose at this point and will want to go out on a high note while Mexico have a slim chance to still qualify. I think both of these teams are fairly even in terms of quality, but both have their fair share of problems in defense.  Take the over 2.5 goals here.
