Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Washington Nationals
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals meet for game three of their series in Los Angles. The Dodgers are -140 favorites over the Nationals with an over/under run total set at 7.
The Los Angeles Dodgers fell behind early on Saturday and appeared to be one loss away from getting swept but they rallied and came back for the win in the game though it may be too late to rally and save their season. Rafael Furcal had two hits including the game winner, an RBI Double in the ninth inning, and Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, and Juan Rivera all had two hits as the Dodgers had 14 hits that they converted into seven runs. Starter Ted Lilly lasted just five innings allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out but didn’t factor in the decision as Javy Guerra got his second win of the season. For Sunday’s series finale Los Angeles starts Chad Billingsley who has lost two of his last three starts with both of those coming on the road. For the season Billingsley has allowed 123 hits and 55 earned runs while striking out 104 in 121.2 innings of work.
The Washington Nationals looked to be headed towards a possible sweep and back to .500 on the season but they let it get away from them on Saturday Night. Ryan Zimmerman and Michael Morse each had two hits and Jayson Werth and Rick Ankiel had two RBI’s each as the Nationals scored six runs off of nine hits. On the mound Tom Gorzelanny allowed eight hits and five runs lasting just three innings and it was Henry Rodriguez who blew the save and Ryan Mattheus who took the loss after pitching 1.1 innings. For Sunday’s series finale Washington starts Jason Marquis who won last time out to end a personal two game losing streak. For the season Marquis has allowed 127 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 69 in 114 innings of work.
Los Angeles is 6-1 in their last seven games as a favorite, 2-5 in their last seven games against the N.L. East, and 20-6 in Billingsley’s last 26 home starts against a team with a losing record. Washington is 4-1 in their last five games following a loss, 2-7 in their last nine games as an underdog, and 5-2 in Marquis’ last seven road starts. Washington is 7-19 in their last 26 games in Los Angeles.
While the Nationals are up and comers, Billingsley is awfully tough at home so I give the Dodgers a slight edge in the game. Take the Dodgers minus the 140.
