Atlanta Braves vs. Colorado Rockies
The Atlanta Braves and the Colorado Rockies meet for game two of their series in Atlanta. The Braves are -125 favorites over the Rockies with an over/under run total set at 7.5.
The Atlanta Braves continue to treat every game as a chance to make a statement and they made another statement against the Rockies on Monday. Freddie Freeman had two home runs and three RBI’s, Brian McCann had two hits and scored twice, and Jason Heyward added a hit that was part of a seven hit and four run offensive night for the Braves. Tommy Hanson, fresh off of his All Star snub, allowed four hits and a run while striking out six over seven innings of work to nothch his 10th win of the season and the also snubbed Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 25th save of the year. For Tuesday’s game Atlanta goes with Derek Lowe who was sharp in his last outing where he ended a winless streak that had game on well over a month. For the season Lowe has allowed 100 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 76 over 101.2 innings of work.
The Colorado Rockies lost for the seventh time in the last 10 games and they are going to need a strong second half if they are going to be playing in the post season. On Monday Todd Helton, Jonathan Herrera, Seth Smith, and Ubaldo Jimenez each had hits but it all led to just one run and that wasn’t nearly enough. On the mound Jimenez allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out nine over 5.1 innings of work to take his eighth loss of the year. Colorado looks to bounce back as they send Jhoulys Chacin to the mound to try and right the ship. For the season Chacin has allowed 77 hits and 36 earned runs while striking out 92 over 104.2 innings of work.
Atlanta is 7-1 in their last eight home games, 14-3 in their last 17 games against a right handed starter, and 0-7 in Lowe’s last seven starts against the NL West. Colorado is 5-2 in their last seven game two of a series, 1-5 in their last six road games, and 4-1 in Chacin’s last five starts. Colorado is 7-20 in their last 27 games in Atlanta.
The Braves just don’t beat themselves but that doesn’t mean they win them all. This is spot where the Braves get beat. Take the Rockies plus 105.
