Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies battle it out in the desert in game three of their weekend series.  The Rockies are -145 favorites over the Diamondbacks with the over/under run total set at 9.

The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to battle in the National League West and as much as they could have used the win on Friday, Saturday’s win helped them keep pace with the Giants. On Saturday Miguel Montero had a home run and five RBI’s, Jay Upton had three hits, a grand slam home run, and six RBI’s, and Gerardo Parra had two hits and scored three times as the Diamondbacks scored 12 runs off of 14 hits. On the mound Josh Collmenter allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings of work to earn his sixth win of the year. For Sunday’s series finale Arizona starts Micah Owings who makes just his third start of the year after working primarily from the bullpen. For the season Owings has allowed 24 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 21 in 29.1 innings of work.

The Colorado Rockies will have some big decisions to make over the next week as the trade offers will come but Saturday’s loss put them 10 games back in the N.L. West standings which may be too much to overcome at this point. On Saturday Troy Tulowitzki homered and had two hits and Mark Ellis and Todd Helton each had a hit and scored as the Rockies scored three runs off of seven hits which didn’t even make it close. On the mound Jason Hammel was shelled allowing 12 hits and eight runs while striking out seven over 5.2 innings of work. For Sunday’s game Colorado starts Ubaldo Jimenez who may have been mentioned in trade rumors but who is extremely unlikely to be traded. For the season Jimenez has allowed 108 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 108 in 117 innings of work.

Arizona is 1-6 in their last seven game three of a series, 0-4 in their last four games as an underdog, and 6-2 in their last seven home games against Colorado. Colorado is 3-9 in their last 12 road games, 2-7 in their last nine games against a team with a winning record, and 1-5 in Jimenez’s last six road starts against a team with a winning record. Colorado is 4-10 in the last 14 meetings if these two.

Jimenez started slow as far as the wins and losses but he has come on strong of late and should win a hard fought game here though.  Take the Rockies minus the 145.
