Texas Rangers vs. New York Yankees
The New York Yankees look for the sweep of the Texas Rangers as they prepare for interleague play. The Yankees are -140 favorites over the Rangers with an over/under run total of 8.5.
The New York Yankees fell behind early on Wednesday but they never even flinched, instead they took out the big bats and got the win. Mark Teixeira homered twice, had three hits, Drove in four runs, and scored three times, Robinson Cano had two hits and drove in three runs, and Eduardo Nunez and Ramiro Pena each had two hits as part of a 12 hit 12 run offensive night for the Yankees. Starter Ivan Nova allowed seven hits and four earned runs while striking out two over 5.2 innings of work to earn his sixth win of the season. For Thursday afternoon’s game New York starts who hasn’t pitched in the Majors since 2008 since he was ironically with Texas. At 32 Gordon is no youngster but in the Minors this season he is 5-0 with a 1.14 ERA at Lehigh Valley.
The Texas Rangers are struggling but with no one pressing them in the AL West their four straight losses haven’t cost them much in the standings. On Wednesday Ian Kinsler homered and had two hits, Josh Hamilton had three hits, and Elvis Andrus added a pair of hits but the 10 hits and four runs weren’t enough to get a win for the Rangers. Starter Dave Holland allowed seven hits and six earned runs over five innings of work to take his second loss of the season. For Thursday’s game Texas looks to C.J. Wilson to help them avoid the sweep. For the season Wilson has allowed 82 hits and 33 earned runs while striking out 83 in 96 innings of work.
New York is 8-1 in their last nine games against the American League West, 5-1 in their last six home games, and 6-1 in their last seven game three of a series. Texas is 7-1 in their last eight game three of a series, 1-5 in their last six road games, and 7-3 in Wilson’s last 10 starts against the AL East. Texas is 1-6 in their last seven games against New York.
I expect a lot of runs here. I’ll take the over of 8.5.
