St. Louis Cardinals vs. Baltimore Orioles
The St. Louis Cardinals go for the road sweep as they play the Baltimore Orioles in game three of their series at Camden Yards. The Orioles are -120 favorites over the Cardinals with an over/under run total set at 9.5
The Baltimore Orioles came in to this series in last place in the American League East and they haven’t done anything to improve their position. On Wednesday Night J.J. Hardy and Nick Markakis each had two hits and Vladimir Guerrero had a hit as part of the seven hits that yield just one run for the Orioles. Starter Chris Jakubauskas allowed seven hits and five earned runs while striking out two over five innings to take his first loss though the bullpen allowed just one hit over four innings. For Thursday’s game Baltimore starts Brian Matusz who has lost his last three starts. For the season Matusz has allowed 31 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 16 over 22.1 innings of work.
The St. Louis Cardinals looked to be struggling and while they haven’t caught the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central, they are just a game back in the standings. On Wednesday Colby Rasmus homered and drove in two runs, Skip Schumaker had two hits and scored twice, and Nick Punto had two hits and scored a run as eight Cardinals hits led to five runs. Chris Carpenter allowed seven hits and a run while striking out five over a complete nine innings earning him his third win of a sub par season for him. On Thursday St. Louis starts Jaime Garcia who fills in for Jake Westbrook who is a late scratch. Garcia has lost three of their last four decisions and for the season he has allowed 96 hits and 34 earned runs while striking out 88 over 100 innings of work.
Baltimore is 6-2 in their last eight home games against a left handed starter, 9-4 in their last 13 game three of a series, and 7-2 in Matusz’s last nine home starts. St. Louis is 10-4 in their last 14 interleague road games, 5-12 in their last 17 games overall, and 2-5 in Garcia’s last seven road starts.
I expect a lot of runs in today’s game. Therefore, I am taking the over 9.5 here.
