Seattle Mariners vs. Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox look to bounce back from two tough losses as they host the red hot Seattle Mariners.  The Mariners are -115 favorites over the White Sox with an over/under total set at 8 runs.

The Chicago White Sox had a chance to make a quick move in the American League Central over the weekend but lost on both Saturday and Sunday as it was the Tigers making the move towards the top. Chicago is 5-5 in their last 10 games, 11-15 at home this season, and seven games behind the Indians in the AL Central. As a team Chicago is hitting .254 led by Paul Konerko at .313, Alexei Ramirez at .298, and Brent Lillibridge at .289. The White Sox pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.16 as the starters check in with an ERA of 4.13 and the bullpen has an ERA of 4.26. For game one against the Mariners Chicago start John Danks who has yet to win a game this season. For the year Danks has allowed 81 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 46 in 70.1 innings of work on the mound.

The Seattle Mariners are streaking and they are very much in the AL West race and are doing many of the things many expected of them at the start of last season. The Mariners are 7-3 in their last 10 games, 13-13 on the road this season, and two and half games back in the American League West. As a team Seattle is hitting .228 with Ichiro Suzuki hitting .264, Adam Kennedy hitting .294, and Brendan Ryan hitting .256. The Mariners pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.32 with the starters at 3.21 and the bullpen at 3.60. For game one in Chicago Seattle starts Michael Pineda whom they are extremely high on. For the season Pineda has allowed 50 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 73 in 70.1 innings of work.

Chicago is 8-3 in their last 11 games following a loss, 11-5 in their last 16 against a team with a winning record, and 1-4 in Danks’ last five home starts. Seattle is 5-1 in their last six road games, 14-4 in their last 18 games overall, and 7-3 in Pineda’s last 10 starts. Seattle is 8-20 in the last 28 meetings of these two.

While Chicago has owned this series historically and it’s tough to believe Danks will stay this bad, Danks has simply been awful thus far this year and he is simply unplayable.  Take the Mariners minus the 115 in today’s ballgame.
