New York Yankees vs. Colorado Rockies

The New York Yankees and the Colorado Rockies meet for game two of their series at Yankee Stadium.  The Yankees are -205 favorites over the Rockies with an over/under run total set at 9.

The New York Yankees had a chance to move into first place in the American League East with the Boston Red Sox losing in Pittsburgh but instead they let the Tampa Bay Rays move a game closer to them in second place. Nick Swisher had two hits, Curtis Granderson scored twice without getting a hit, and Alex Rodriguez drove in two runs in the losing effort. Starter A.J. Burnett allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out five over 6.1 innings of work but the two home runs he gave up were ultimately his undoing as he took his sixth loss of the year. For Saturday afternoon’s rematch New York starts C.C. Sabathia who leads all starting pitchers in baseball in run support. For the season Sabathia has allowed 112 hits and 43 earned runs while striking out 84 in 114 innings of work.

The Colorado Rockies got the series opening win in the Bronx on Friday Night and in turn they got their overall record back over .500. Jason Giambi homered and had three hits and scored twice, Troy Tulowitzki homered, and Carlos Gonzalez had two hits as the Rockies had nine hits and four runs of offense on the night. Starting Pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez allowed four hits and two runs while striking out seven over seven innings to get his third win of the year and Huston Street pitched the ninth inning to earn his 23rd save. For Saturday’s game Colorado starts Aaron Cook who is still looking to find his best stuff since returning from the DL. For the season Cook has allowed 19 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 10 over 17.1 innings of work.

New York is 8-3 in their last 11 interleague games as a favorite, 135-67 in their last 202 home games, and 4-0 in Sabathia’s last four interleague starts. Colorado is 7-2 in their last nine games overall, 25-11 in their last 36 interleague games, and 1-4 in Cook’s last five starts against the American League East.

While Sabathia does get hit, Cook has been really hit this season and I see the Yankees being just too much in this spot in a not so brave pick.  I’m taking the Yankees minus the 205.
