Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers meet for game two of their series in Philadelphia.  The Phillies are -175 favorites over the Dodgers with an over/under run total set at 9.

The Philadelphia Phillies rode a strong pitching performance to make up for their light hitting and get a win on Monday. Carlos Ruiz had two hits and drove in a run as did Placido Polanco while Chase Utley, Shane Victorino, and Wilson Valdez all scored as the Phillies had six hits and scored three runs. The real story on Monday was Cliff Lee who allowed seven hits while striking out 10 in seven shutout innings to get his fifth win of the season. Ryan Madson blew the shutout by allowing a run but picked up his 13th save of the year. For Tuesday’s game Philadelphia starts Roy Oswalt who has lost his last three decisions. For the season Oswalt has allowed 51 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 32 in 50 innings of work.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been hitting the cover off of the ball but the bats took a rest as they took the loss on Monday. Jamey Carroll had three hits and Aaron Miles and Juan Uribe had two hits each as the Dodgers managed just a run off of their nine hits. Ted Lilly allowed five hits and two runs over six innings of work but it was only good enough for his fifth loss of the season. On Tuesday Los Angeles looks to Rubby De La Rosa who makes his third Major League appearance of the year. For the season De La Rosa has allowed three hits and a run while striking out five in five innings of work.

Philadelphia is 2-7 in their last nine game two of a series, 2-4 in their last six games overall, and 1-4 in Oswalt’s last five starts. Los Angeles is 5-3 in their last eight games overall, 4-2 in their last six road games against a team with a winning record, and 1-4 in their last five road games against a right handed starter. Los Angeles is 1-5 in the last six meetings of these two.

Oswalt hasn’t been overly impressive of late and these odds seem way out of whack but while we know De La Rosa can strike people out, we don’t know much else.  I will take the Phillies minus 175 in this ballgame.
