Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Los Angeles Angels

It’s the first meeting of the year in the battle for bragging rights in Los Angles as the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Los Angeles Angels.  The Angels are -140 favorites over the Dodgers with an over/under run total set at 6.5.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one o the more disappointing teams in baseball as they can’t consistently seem to do anything but under achieve. The Dodgers are 18-22 at home this year, 4-6 in their last 10 games overall, and seven and a half games out in the National League West. As a team Los Angeles is hitting .257 led by Mat Kemp who is hitting .328, Andre Ethier who is hitting .313, and Jamey Carroll who is hitting .300. The Dodgers pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.09 with the starters at 3.92 and the bullpen struggling at 4.49. For game one against their crosstown rivals LA starts Rubby De La Rosa who lost in his last start for the first time this year. For the season De La Rosa has allowed 16 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 21 in 19.2 innings of work.

The Dodgers aren’t the only disappointing team in Los Angeles as the LA Angels have struggled as well. The Angels are 6-4 in their last 10 games, 22-19 on the road this season, and three games back and in third place in the American League West. As a team Los Angeles is hitting .255 lead by Howie Kendrick at .305, Bobby Abreu at .292, and Maicer Izturis at .291. As a team the Angels pitching staff has an ERA of 3.51 with the starters at 3.47 and the bullpen at 3.60. For game one at Dodger Stadium the Angels start Dan Haren who hasn’t gotten a ton of run support this season. For the year Haren has allowed 89 hits and 34 earned runs while striking out 89 in 103.1 innings of work.

The Dodgers are 3-7 in their last 10 home games, 1-5 in their last six game one of a series, and 1-7 in their last eight against the AL West. The Angels are 8-2 in their last 10 game one of a series, 4-14 in their last 18 games following a win, and 1-6 in Haren’s last seven starts against a team with a losing record. The Angels have won five of the last six meetings of these two.

With these two teams and these two starting pitchers runs are going to be scarce.  Take the under 6.5 runs today.
