Kansas City Royals vs. Chicago Cubs
The Kansas City Royals and Chicago Cubs meet for game two of their interleague series of bottom dwellers at Kauffman stadium. The Cubs are -120 favorites over the Royals with an over/under run total set at 9.
The wheels are off the cart for the Kansas City Royals as they lost for the sixth straight time and for the eighth time in their last 10 games on Friday Night. Jeff Francoeur homered and drove in two runs, Alex Gordon had two hits and scored twice, Melky Cabrera had two hits and drove in a run, and Chris Getz added pair of hits in a 10 hit four run offensive night for the Royals. Starter Bruce Chan allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out four over six innings of work to not factor in the decision as Aaron Crow allowed three hits and two runs to take his first loss. Kansas City looks to end their losing streak on Saturday as they start Daniel Duffy who lasted just 3.2 innings in his last start but didn’t figure in the decision. For the season Duffy has allowed 39 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 29 in 34 innings of work.
The Chicago Cubs aren’t having a good year but they got a rare chance to celebrate on Friday Night as they got the win in KC. Aramis Ramirez had two hits and drove in three runs, Starlin Castro had three hits, Carlos Pena had two hits and scored twice, and DJ LeMakieu had two hits and scored a run as the Cubs had 15 hits and scored six runs for the night. Ryan Dempster allowed nine hits and four runs, two of them earned, while striking out four over six innings to not factor in the decision as Sean Marshall got his fourth win of the year and Carlos Marmol earned his 16th save. For Saturday’s game Chicago starts Carlos Zambrano who has pitched well for the most part in his contract year. For the season Zambrano has allowed 101 hits and 53 earned runs while striking out 72 in 104 innings of work.
Kansas City is 11-28 in their last 39 games overall, 1-6 in their last seven home games, and 1-6 in Duffy’s last seven starts. Chicago is 5-12 in their last 17 against the AL Central, 2-5 in their last seven road games, and 1-4 in Zambrano’s last five starts. Chicago is 6-2 in the last eight meetings of these two.
We have two teams who don’t win a lot of games but who can really swing a bat so expect plenty of scoring. I’m takeing the over 9 here.
