Kansas City Royals vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks look for the road sweep of the Kansas City Royals. The Diamondbacks are 0115 favorites over the Royals with an over/under run total set at 8.
The Arizona Diamondbacks won again in Kansas City on Wednesday night as Ian Kennedy delivered yet another strong performance and the D-Backs bats chased Jeff Francis for three runs in the fifth which would be all the offense needed. The Diamondbacks remain in first place in the NL West with the narrowest of cushion with a 19-17 record away from home on the year. Arizona will look to complete the sweep as they send young righty Daniel Hudson to the mound in search of his ninth win. Hudson pitched a three hit complete game in his last outing against the White Sox and for the season has allowed 98 hits and 40 earned runs while striking out 86 over 101 innings of work. The Diamondbacks are batting .252 as a team on the year while ranking 6th in the league in runs scored.
The Kansas City Royals have now lost four straight with a 3-7 record in their last ten games and 21-22 record at home on the season. The Royals had 11 hits on Wednesday night but only converted them into two runs in the loss. Kansas City will look to avoid the home sweep as they send Felipe Paulino to the mound for his fifth start of the year. For the season Paulino has allowed 43 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 35 over 41.2 innings of work. Paulino worked out of the bullpen in Colorado through May 20th this year. The Royals are batting .261 as a team on the year while ranking 11th in the league in runs scored.
The Diamondbacks have the starting pitching edge once again and are the better overall team. At a virtual pick ‘em, it’s tough to look past them here but the Royals success getting hits yesterday even if they didn’t translate into runs makes this a potentially dangerous spot for the visitor. I’m taking the Diamondbacks minus the 115.
