Atlanta Braves vs. Texas Rangers

The Atlanta Braves and the Texas Rangers mix it up in interleague play as they meet for game one of their series at Turner Field in Atlanta.  The Braves are -155 favorites over the Rangers with an over/under run total set at 7.5.

The Atlanta Braves fought hard with the Mets all week and capped it off with a ninth inning comeback and extra innings win on Thursday Night that they hope carries over into the weekend. The Braves are 18-15 at home this season, 7-3 in their last 10 games overall, and five games back in the National League East. As a team Atlanta is hitting .239 with Brian McCann hitting .295, martin Prado hitting .277, Freddie Freeman is hitting .267, and Chipper Jones is hitting .266. As a team the Braves pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.07 with the starters at 3.33 and the bullpen at 2.57. For game one against the Rangers Atlanta starts Randall Delgado who moves up from AA Mississippi. For the season in the Minors Delgado has a 3.54 ERA striking out 64 in 73.2 innings.

The Texas Rangers are clinging to a lead in the American League West which has been more of a product of those around them stumbling rather than themselves winning. The Rangers have lost five in a row, are 2-8 in their last 10 games, and 16-21 on the road this season. As a team Texas is hitting .263 with Michael Young hitting .307, Mitch Moreland at .300, and Josh Hamilton at .284. As a team the Rangers pitching staff has an ERA of 3.97 with the starters at 3.74 and the bullpen at 4.49. For game one at Turner Field Texas starts Colby Lewis who has lost his last two starts. For the season Lewis has allowed 83 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 59 in 79.2 innings of work.

Atlanta is 6-1 in their last seven against a right handed starter, 4-1 in their last five interleague home games against a team with a winning record, and 8-3 in their last 11 games overall. Texas is 8-3 in their last 11 games against the NL East, 1-4 in their last five interleague games, and 1-4 in Lewis’ last five starts.

I expect a lot of runs to be scored and I’ll take the over 7.5 runs in this ballgame.
