Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets

The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves meet for game one of their weekend series at Citi Field.  The Braves are -125 favorites over the Mets with an over/under run total set at 7.5.

The New York Mets were called out for being under achievers and while it looked like they were going to underachieve once again on Thursday they responded with their biggest comeback since 2001, coming back from seven runs down. New York is 13-16 at home this season, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and trails the Phillies by eight games in the national League East where they sit in fourth place. As a team New York is hitting .255 with Jose Reyes hitting .333, Justin Turner hitting .314, Ruben Tejada hitting .313, and Carlos Beltran is hitting .288. As a team the Mets pitching staff has an ERA of 4.25 with the starters at 4.27 and the bullpen at 4.20. For game one of the series against the Braves New York starts Jon Niese who has won three of his last four starts. For the season Niese has allowed 70 hits and 29 earned runs while striking out 50 in 66.2 innings of work on the mound.

The Atlanta Braves are in third place in the National League East and one of three teams in the division who head into the weekend with a winning record. The braves are three and a half games behind Philadelphia, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and 14-13 on the road this season. As a team Atlanta is hitting .245 led by Brian McCann at .309, Martin Prado at .279 with 33 RBI’s, and Freddie Freeman at .270. The Braves pitching staff hits this series with an ERA of 3.01 with the starters at 3.24 and the bullpen at 2.56. For game one in the Big Apple Atlanta sends Derek Lowe to the mound for the start as he looks for his first win in nearly a month. For the season Lowe has allowed 64 hits and 30 earned runs while striking out 58 in 67 innings of work.

New York is 3-7 in their last 10 against a right-handed starter, 3-10 in their last 13 home games against a team with a winning record, and 3-8 in Niese’s last 11 starts against the National League East. Atlanta is 4-1 in their last five road games against a left handed starter, 5-11 in their last 16 road games against a team with a losing record, and 1-4 in Lowe’s last five road starts. Atlanta has won five of their last six games in New York.

This looks like more of a tactical game with runs being manufactured, this should stay under the total.  Take the under 7.5 runs here.
