Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves look to salvage a win in their home series against the Washington Nationals. The Braves are a -205 favorite over the Nationals while the over/under run total is set at 7.5.
The Atlanta Braves entered their home series against the Nationals four games over .500 and with them looking like it was coming together. On Tuesday Night the Braves lost for the second night in a row as Eric Hinske homered and Brian McCann and Martin Prado each had two hits as the Braves had eight hits and three runs. Starter Tommy Hanson allowed five hits and a run while striking out three in 5.2 innings of work to not figure in the decision as Craig Kimbrel blew the save by allowing three hits and two runs in an inning of work and Scott Linebrink took the loss getting shelled for four hits and four runs in 1.1 innings of work. On Thursday Atlanta looks to salvage a win in the series as they send Derek Lowe to the mound. For the season Lowe has allowed 42 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 41 in 44.2 innings of work.
The Washington Nationals are anything but pushovers this season and as heavy underdogs they have gone into Atlanta and taken the first two games in the series from the Braves. On Wednesday Jayson Werth homered and had two hits while Alex Cora, Ian Desmond, and Jerry Hairston Jr. each had two hits while Lance Nix had three hits in a 13 hit seven run outing by the team. John Lannan allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out three in six innings of work to not figure in the decision while Drew Storen got the win by pitching a perfect inning. For Thursday’s game Washington starts Jordan Zimmerman who has allowed two runs in each of his last two outings. For the season Zimmerman has allowed 43 hits and 19 earned runs and has 24 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of work.
Atlanta is 7-3 in their last 10 games overall, 5-2 in their last seven home games, and 5-2 in Lowe’s last seven home starts. Washington is 73-154 in their last 227 road games, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and 2-10 in Zimmerman’s last 12 road starts. Washington is 5-1 in their last six games in Atlanta.
The Braves have been embarrassed in the first two games of this series but I think they turn the tables here in a big way. Take the Braves -205 today.
