The Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels play out the rubber match of their weekend series in Texas on Sunday. The Rangers are -145 favorites over the Angels and the over/under run total is set at 8.5.
The Texas Rangers battled back twice on Saturday but they we unable to do it a third time as they fell to the AL West leading Angels. On Saturday the Rangers had seven hits with two by Adrian Beltre and Ian Kinsler and Mitch More land both scoring runs. Dave Holland allowed six hits and two earned runs while striking out four in six innings of work while Darren Oliver allowed two hits and a run in the ninth inning to take the loss. For Sunday’s game Texas starts C.J. Wilson who has lost two of his last three starts. For the season Wilson has allowed 53 hits and 21 earned runs while striking out 48 in 56.1 innings of work.
The Los Angeles Angels added to their lead in the American League West on Saturday as they won in Texas. Macier Izturis, Alberto Callespo, and Jeff Mathis all had two hits as the Angels had 10 hits en route to three runs and the win. Dan Haren allowed six hits and two earned runs while striking out five in 7.2 innings of work but it was Scott Downs getting his first win of the year and Jordan Walden getting his seventh save. For Sunday’s game Los Angeles starts Ervin Santana who has had a slow start to the season. For the year Santana has allowed 50 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 45 in 48.2 innings of work.
Texas is 4-10 in their last 14 against the AL West, 2-6 in game three of a series, and 13-5 in Wilson’s last 18 starts against the AL West. Los Angeles is 4-1 in their last five against a left handed starter, 13-5 in their last 18 road games, and 2-6 in Santana’s last eight starts following a win. Texas is 4-0 in Wilson’s last f our home starts against the Angels.
I have to give Texas the edge as Wilson just seems to have the Angels number and Santana is off to a slow start. I got the Rangers minus the 145.
