Tampa Bay Rays vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles look to avoid the home sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are -130 favorites over the Orioles with an over/under run total set at 9.
The Baltimore Orioles fell behind early Saturday and never were close as they lost back to back once again this season. Nick Markasis had three hits while John Fox and Adam Jones each had a hit, as it wasn’t nearly enough offense to compete on Saturday. Jeremy Guthrie allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs while striking out four over five innings of work to take his fifth loss of the season as the Orioles used five pitchers total. Baltimore looks to salvage a win on Sunday as they start Bradley Bergesen who has yet to win this season. For the season Bergesen has allowed 31 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 18 in 27.1 innings of work.
The Tampa Bay Rays continued their remarkable run on Saturday, as they are the hottest team in baseball. Ben Zobrist had four hits and scored three times, B.J. Upton had three hits including a home run, and Evan Longoria had two hits and a home run on the winning effort. Jeremy Hellickson allowed just three hits and no runs though he walked five in five innings of work to get his third win of the year. On Sunday Tampa Bay goes for the sweep as they start Wade Davis who is 3-2 this season. For the year Davis has allowed 36 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out 17 in 39 innings of work.
Baltimore is 14-6 in their last 20 home games against a right-handed starter, 2-6 in their last eight home games, and 0-7 in Bergesen’s last seven starts. Tampa Bay is 7-0 in their last seven road games, 6-1 in their last seven against the AL East, and 5-1 in Davis’ last six road starts. Tampa Bay is 9-3 in their last 12 games in Baltimore.
I believe we see a lot more scoring here, as both of these pitchers can be soft. Make sure you take the over 9 runs in this ballgame.
