San Diego Padres vs. Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres meet for game two of their series at Miller Park in Milwaukee.  The Brewers are -170 favorites over the Padres with an over/under run total set at 8.

The Milwaukee Brewers got a big win on Monday as they started their series with the Padres on the right foot. Rickie Weeks homered and had two hits and Jonathan Lucroy added two more hits while Yuniesky Betancourt turned one of the nicest double plays in recent memory to aid the Brewers in the win. Zack Greinke was impressive in his Milwaukee home debut as he allowed five hits and two runs while striking out nine in six innings of work to earn his first win as a Brewer and John Axford pitched the ninth to get his sixth save. For Tuesday’s game Milwaukee starts Shaun Marcum who has been a solid contributor in his first season in Milwaukee. For the year Marcum has allowed 33 hits and 10 runs while striking out 42 in 43.2 innings of work.

The San Diego Padres remain in last place in the National League West as their bats just don’t do enough to get it done. Will Venable, Jason Bartlett, and Brad Hawpe each had two hits but it all converted into just three runs of offense, one run short of what they needed. Mat Latos continued to struggle as he allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out four in 5.2 innings of work to take his fifth loss of the year. For Tuesday’s rematch San Diego starts Clayton Richard who has lost his last three starts. For the season Richard has allowed 36 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 23 in 38 innings of work.

Milwaukee is 5-0 in their last five home games against a left handed starter, 17-7 in their last 24 home games against a team with a losing record, and 2-8 in their last 10 games overall. San Diego is 3-7 in their last 10 game two of a series, 6-14 in their last 20 games against a right handed starter, and 1-5 in Richard’s last six starts.

I’m not looking for a ton of scoring with these two starters and I see the under as a strong play.  Take under the 8 runs in this ballgame.

Under 8
